ASK And You Shall Find...

IGotLupus.jpgWell, the title of this post reads something paraphrased along those lines of what I'm experiencing at this moment.  Being an educator and professional trainer, I've learned asking questions can help you find out the answers to many health related problems that you may not understand about yourself.   After twenty years of being diagnosed with lupus, I have had my first consultation with an awesome, patient, and receptive specialist at MUSC in Charleston, SC.  I am also excited about the opportunity to participate in two studies --one with USC and one at MUSC.  The initial review went well for me.  As far as for the Doc, I don't know if I was just too "Lupie" or not! (Bless his heart for dealing with a character such as myself! Haha!)

I admit, I cheated a little bit.  I had a very dear and experienced friend take the time to review what types of questions I should ask.  She guided me on what I need to write down and take with me to the consultation.   I've learned to practice what I preach to students all the time; that you not only have to be your own advocate, but, you have to 'raise your hand' to ask questions.  If there's something you don't understand, ask about it.   Whether it be a medical term, treatment, or even a simple pain in your left ankle, ASK!  Of course you know 'your' body.  Yet, an experienced and well-practiced specialist may know it a tad bit better.

I actually do have lupus! Huh? Who would have thought.  I guess I'll add that to all of my other 'girl scout' badges of related illnesses!

"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened."~Matthew 7:7-8
